I – Nature of the Motions   1.      This Motion is for the Order and / or Orders as outlined in the Applicant’s Motion dated March 18th, 2008. Jan 23, 2008There was no consultation; there was no effort to involve paralegals in this process in terms of, where do we go from here? This was the Attorney General calling up his friends at the law society and saying,
  October 16, 2006 ACCESS TO JUSTICE ACT, 2006 Mr. Robert W. Runciman (Leeds-Grenville): A little delayed, Mr. Speaker, but this is the leadoff. I want to thank my colleague Mrs. Elliott, who is now officially the full-time critic for the Ministry of the Attorney General. I'm not sure what my title is, but I'm going to be in some way, shape or form, hopefully, supporting her as time goes by with respect to this portfolio, because there are certainly more than enough concerns surrounding the Attorney General's ministry in this province for two people to take on that challenge. I appreciate the opportunity. I'm told there are a few paralegals in the public galleries, and hopefully we'll see more and more of them involved and engaged come September 2007, leading into October 4, 2007 -- I believe it is October 4 -- with respect to not just this piece of legislation but other failures of the provincial government with respect to so many promises we heard this government make when they were in opposition and running for election and their failure to keep them. We've heard this theme over and over again -- saying anything to get elected -- and certainly that was the case in the justice file as well. I want to mention a couple of process things here with respect to Bill 14. Being in government for a little over eight years and being House leader of the official opposition, I haven't had, certainly in government, the opportunity to serve on standing committees of the Legislature. As House leader, I am not a member of a standing committee, so I haven't had that many opportunities to sit in on committee for quite a number of years, so this was the first extensive time since my earlier years in opposition. I have to say how impressed I was with the member for Whitby-Ajax, who is a very new member of this assembly and a very new member of our caucus but a very experienced lawyer and very articulate, very capable and, I have to say, very, very impressive in terms of the way that she handled the issues and represented the interests of so many people who feel let down by this legislation, to say the least. HELEN BRANSWELL Canadian Press Wednesday, November 26, 2003 TORONTO (CP) - The distributor of an unregulated supplement that contains the active ingredient of the drug Viagra has refused to comply with a Health Canada request to remove it from the market. Health Canada issued a warning to consumers Wednesday, urging them not to purchase or take the pill, marketed under the name Bell Magicc Bullet. A spokeswoman for the department said further action will be taken. The department said the product, which is styled as an herbal supplement, contains the unauthorized chemical ingredient sildenafil, a prescription drug most consumers know by the name Viagra. Nothing on the product's labelling indicates that it contains sildenafil. As seen on the company's website, the packaging does make the claim the pills are an "all natural herbal supplement to restore male virility," that helps "prevent premature ejaculation" and "works on the first dose." Health Canada spokeswoman Krista Apse said an unapproved supplement cannot contain a prescription drug. Further, companies selling supplements cannot make unsubstantiated health claims about their products. "When there's a therapeutic claim . . . the product has to be approved by Health Canada," Apse said from Ottawa. She was emphatic when asked if the product would eventually be pulled from Canadian store shelves. "Yes. Yes. But in the meantime our responsibility is to inform Canadians." Human Rights are absolutely Supreme and cannot be overridden or subverted by any so-called "law" made by man. Further, before you start assuming that "legal assistant" has something to do with a "Lawyer/Agent/Lay Litigate/Lay Counsel" or any other such "legal fiction", know this, these international instruments are all written with words carrying their plain language meanings. In other words, the words of these instruments cannot be interpreted pursuant to any legal definition or definition provided in any Domestic statute. Only the definitions provided in English language dictionaries apply. A "legal assistant" is therefore, someone with knowledge of law who is willing to be an aid or helper in the presenting of the facts of the case.
